Introducing Amir. A Representative of the Campaign To End The New Jim Crow, But More importantly A Man with A Real story. Amir’s story is a remarkable one. From a troubled youth to prison to college, Amir is living proof just how hard the Judicial and Prison system is and how redemption is possible if you never give up on yourself.

Just felt like writing a poem. Yeah, I still do that you know (lol). Ballads Usually have music to accompany them, But just imagine what it sounds like in your head.

-I find myself in the darkest of places. The lowest of points. In life’s bottom barrow I hold permanent residence. Evident I’m broken.

I see exactly what you see. I hate it as much as you do. But I can’t change it. I don’t know how to.

I saw you hurt me in my dreams, so I become your nightmare when I wake. I’m praying that you leave. I don’t know how much you can take.

I trust you to hurt me. It’s like i’m praying that you do. Your too perfect for me. I’m too broken for you.

Having to accept that i’m not what I once was. It only hurts because I wish I would have met you then. I wish you could have seen him. Before the hurt. Before He lost it all. You deserved Him, Not the me you got now. The dented soup can. The Broken Clock, Never on time and only right once. The Hater of love. The killer of dreams. The Guy that tells kids there is no santa clause. The Believer of nothing. The wound that won’t heal because I continue to pick at it. This is starting to sound like a “It’s not you, It’s me” thing. I don’t really care who it is. I just need to be free of it. I am paranoid. I suffer from no trust at all. I’m well aware that it will ultimately be my downfall. Why don’t I care and I know that I should. I got Good, No I got great. I want bad, No I want hate. So broken. You tried, can’t fix um. I love you. Love yourself more. When you leave, Don’t miss Him.-

Storyteller/Comedian/Actress Maggie Nuttall has a B.A. in Theatre from Marywood University. This is her third solo show in as many years. Her other solo shows are Off the Beaten Path in 2009 Me Me Me Festival hosted by the Broadway Comedy Club, and Roll With It at the 2010 NYC Frigid Theatre Festival produced by HorseTrade Theatre. She has taken on such roles as Beatrice from Effect of Gamma Rays on Man In The Moon Marigolds and Leona in Tennessee Williams’ Confessional. She is a frequent performer at the NYC MOTH Story Slams and has told stories onstage at The Bitter End, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Housing Works, and SouthPaw in Brooklyn.
