Biography
The Prototype is a diverse Puerto Rican-American Hip Hop artist and CEO of Die-Hard Ent. Born and raised in the South Bronx, is the youngest of five brothers. His passion for music and art was evident early on; he began writing poetry and short stories about political and social views about violence, drug abuse, and broken families. After being inspired by such Hip Hop greats as Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes and OutKast fused those elements of spoken word and story telling into compelling rap songs. Having found his niche, he was ready to take his then recreation to the next level.
In 2007, He released a street album detailing the harsh realities of inner city public schools called ‘High School Drop Out’ mixtape. Unlike Kanye West’s ‘College Drop’ this was dark and introspective coming of age tale between academic life and “Street” life. The Prototype explains “Coming from where I came from. Dropping out of high School was real to me than dropping out of college. Because most of us… including my self didn’t think that far.”
After the mixtape spread in underground circuit he began to receive street cred and accolades from local Deejays, music producers and club promoters through out the city. This earned him the attention from Grammy nominated and Universal Rap artist Remy Ma. They soon collaborated on the buzz worthy “Spit Fire pt.2”. Remy Ma was so impressed with Prototype’s prodigious talents she vouched for him by saying “He’s the originator, the beginning of the newness!”
The Prototype used this opportunity to begin a professional recording career. However after being snubbed by several A&R’s and record labels. He decided to go the independent route with his music, and formed his own indie rap label and production company Die-Hard Ent. along with business partners Jason “Dj Boogie Monster” Young and Charles “Sleep” Duffy.
On September 2009, The Prototype announced a joint venture deal between his imprint Die-Hard Ent. and Amalgam Digital (a Boston based digital distribution/media platform that focuses on independent urban music throughout the world) “Cd’s are dead, and digital is the way of doing business. Being with Amalgam will bring my sound to a bigger audience. They have a great platform in which my work can progress and grow; I look forward to rock’n with them”
In Dec 2009, The Prototype released the sequel to ‘The High School Drop Out’ mixtape titled ‘High School Drop-out: 2nd Semester’ on Amalgam Digital. And he currently collaborated with American Soprano singer Darynn Zimmer on a tribute song for United States service men and women called ‘Come Home’ (Hoorah) to be released in 2010.
The Prototype continues to set the bar for himself and the development of his brand
Instrumentation
The Prototype rhyming prowess is emphasized on flow, vocal delivery and his ability to use multisyllabic rhyme schemes. His approach to song writing and recording varies between topics and the dynamics of the instrumental compositions (beats).
